ARCHIVES

The mandate of the Archives is to collect, preserve, conserve and make available the documentary heritage of Charlotte County.

The Charlotte County Archives’ rich and varied collection reflects the diversity, experience and achievment of Charlotte County people.

The collections date back to the 18th century and include:

  • Thousands of original documents reflecting various individuals, groups and businesses who have contributed to our social, cultural, economic and political development.
  • Over 5,000 photographic images - dating from the 1850s.
  • Manuscripts and theses.
  • Charlotte County newspapers.
  • Maps and architectural drawings.
  • Letters and logs


HISTORICAL INFORMATION CENTRE

The Archives has an excellent research/reference room to accommodate researchers.

  • Family histories.
  • Cemetery records.
  • Reference books.
  • Microfilm: Charlotte County & Maine newspapers; Property records (Registry books 1784-1880); Probate records; Church records; Archival collections; Census records (1851-1901)
  • Subject files.
  • Photographs from 1860s - present day (originals kept in air controlled storage).
  • Theses.
  • Charlotte County Historical Society Contributions - an invaluable collection of papers, presentations… prepared for/by the Charlotte County Historical Society to do with local history.
